Historic Rock and Roll Clubs---3. Tipitina's

Location: New Orleans, Louisiana
Famous Bands to Grace the Stage: Neville Brothers, Dr. John, The Meters
-----------------------------------------
Tipitina's in New Orleans actually provides two choices: Tipitina's French Quarter or Tipitina's Uptown. Tipitina's French Quarter is the newer, more touristy venue right in the heart of the action. Although this Tipitina's provides great acts, more adventurous music folk should head to the original Tipitina's Uptown, where the scene is grittier and the bands are usually less established. Tipitina's Uptown opened in the 1970s by music enthusiasts and soon emerged as the New Orleans spot to see the best rhythm and blues performers. The revered ancestor and guardian deity of the club is the late, great Professor Longhair, one of the most stunning piano stylists ever to emerge from the Crescent City. In fact, Tipitina's takes it's name from a woman in one of Professor Longhair's songs. No matter which Tipitina's you choose, you will find New Orleans music served up hot and smoky like a bubbling gumbo.
