Mother/Child Dining

This dining table for mother and child is based on the metaphor of the special intimate moment of feeding your child. This feeling goes much deeper then just giving food; mother and child are almost one, as with the umbilical cord before birth. In this way the furniture has to be one too. Dimensions and form follows the function: table width is based on the length of my arm with the spoon towards the mouth of my child. I’m sitting sideways because that’s the easiest way to sit for feeding. Two sides of the table are completely closed; it’s impossible to join a third person. All these specific reasons that define form and finish do match completely with constructive needs.

Sternform Produktgestaltung's newest creation can be turned any which way to provide light and/or support. The 90-90 shelf light, produced by Pling Collection, is a simple, freestanding lighting fixture that hangs out on a bookshelf and brightens things up. Sit Down With A Good Book

There’s this preconceived notion that books have to be displayed on shelves, ala library style but our modern lives don’t exactly allow for large shelving units and so we find other creative solutions such as smaller floating shelves. “Book in a Chair” takes a similar approach by integrating slats inbetween seat cushions along a bench. That way, a good book or magazine is always within arm’s reach.

Steam Table Lamp

Steam is the name Rikke Hagen has given to her futuristic table lamp, which communicates power in plenty. In the award-winning designer’s own words: ”The keywords with this new lamp have been to capture power and energy in their basic forms. Because the very essence of light is energy. I drew lots of lines, which I ended up by simplifying - until only simplicity is left.

Steam plays with the basic form of the table lamp, but has been totally purged of all superfluous detail. On the other hand, the current or the cable that is normally concealed has been made into part of the installation: a bold turquoise cable, swinging its way out from inside the lamp. Talking of her collaboration with Holmegaard Glassworks, which is steeped in traditions, and has produced hand-blown glass since 1825, Rikke Hagen says: “As a designer, I see it as my primary objective to plant myself solidly in Holmegaard’s impressive aesthetic history and continue building with all the material I find there. So I chose the smoked grey and opal white colors for Steam, because those are just the colors Holmegaard is famous for. Then I pepped them up with the audacious turquoise cable. The vibrant, cool blue goes perfectly with the smoke and white shades.”

Illoiha - Designer Gym in Japan by Nendo

To express the original brand concept of “becoming beautiful through movement”, we chose the theme “rock-climbing on Omotesando” and developed a design that uses the mismatch between a rugged outdoor sport and Tokyo’s fashion district to its advantage. Instead of the usual rough and outdoorsy climbing wall, we came up with the idea of using interior design elements like picture frames, mirrors, deer heads, bird cages and flower vases to create a challenging wall with hard-to-find holds and unusual finger grips. We hope that our uniquely Omotesando-style climbing wall inspires newcomers to try out the sport, and starts a new wave in fitness with style.

Cumulus Light Canopy by Steven Haulenbeek

This lighting concept utilizes photographer’s translucent shoot-through umbrellas as modular components to create a scalable light canopy. The accumulation of these umbrellas, hung upside down, creates a cloud form. The umbrella is an object that all people can identify with. In my lighting application, the object is recontextualized to create playful light rather than reference the dark and dreary day. The Cumulus Light Canopy can be made to fit the scale of almost any space just by adding or subtracting its modular elements. It can be broken down to a fraction of its size and can be installed and de-installed almost effortlessly.

Jewellery Drawer by Malin Lundmark

A gigantic jewellery case in the shape of a drawer where you can store your favorite necklace. Inspiration comes from intarsia*, a common technique that was used in furniture manufacturing in former times. In most cases people store jewellery in jewel cases but this becomes storage in a new way. A mobile intarsia that decorates both you and the shelf. *Intarsia, an italian word for the flat adornment made of wood in different colors, inserted to create ornamental patterns.

Milan 2007: Marcel Wanders Personal Editions

Design is a tool that allows us to reach out and inspire, to touch other and help make lives magic and wonderful. I created a dream garden of lightness, a garden of wonders. A place in which to experience life at a different pace, of life connected to the uncertainty of new alliances, dance connected to space and sound.

Frozen flower fossils spring to life. Topiary and flowers meld, forming carefully sculpted characters. Potent, though frozen for eternity, skeletons in suspended animation, captured in pots which feed them yet keep them rooted to the spot. Silent pets waiting for a home. Private moments at home captured in blue painted skin and the frozen motion of fingers in clay, constantly creating individuality, man as machine. Girls in fancy dresses floating overhead, dressed up as silent bells absorbing the music in their ethereal dance. The shadow of the man with the golden nose is watching, as if to show us his opposite side, his inner self.

Design is the unexpected welcome.

This is Not a Shadow by Rozenn Couturier

“This is Not a Shadow” is a site-specific environmental installation. The interpretation of a tree shadow creates a virtually defined space and becomes a “pedestrian stop” where passers-by can sit alone or with others. The installation, which originally featured mosaic tiles but is here represented with vinyl stickers, begins at the base of the actual tree’s trunk, calling attention to the tree’s existence as well as to its “shadow” and extends into the cityscape.

Domus Magazine - No Cutting & No Glue!
This coffee table is composed of six copies of Domus magazine intricately woven together in a way that creates a stable and strong 3-D structure. There is no cutting or glue so it can be taken apart at any time. In order to transform the magical sculpture into a functional object, a glass top and metal base were added. Talk about inspiring and good looking.

There’s no mention of how much weight it can support but I think using it as a side table with a lamp would be total eye candy. What’s more, you can change out the magazines when you get tired of them. Just make sure to buy 6 copies of the same one.
